  General Notes:

Vilhelmine is a great example of how the poor lived in the bridge quarters in Copenhagen in the 1890s and beginning of the 1900s. In that period, she moved around an awful lot; however, as crazy as it appears, there seems to have been a perfectly good explanation:

"Poverty, unemployment, diseases, hunger, and death were something everyone experienced and even though the residents had their daily quarrels, they pulled together and helped each other when it was needed. This allowed for the kind of solidarity that many are looking for today. It was not unusual to move three to four times per year because rent money was scarce. Another reason that many families also moved from apartment to apartment is found in several memoirs written by seniors between 1890 and around 1910. It appears that there was a surplus of apartments in the bridge quarters [Nørrebro, Vesterbro, and Østerbro] where whole streets in periods were left empty. To rent out the apartments, most of the owners offered free rent to new renters for up to three months. Possible explanation: According to the list of people leaving the parish, she left the same year as her confirmation. It looks like she left either 7 May or 25 Nov 1871. Maybe she left before 16 Apr 1871.
