bullet  General Notes:

1900-1903:
Anna Johanna Johnson and John Lindstrom were neighbours. Together they had the twin girls, Anna and Johanna. In the 1900 census, they lived right next door to each other. In 1902, John signed as a witness on Anna Johana's Naturalization Record. John was granted homestead land in 1900 (160 acres) while Anna Johanna was granted her homestead land (160 acres) in 1903. Together they owned half a section of land.

Winnipeg Free Press, "No Helpless Granny is Anna Johanna" and Lethbridge Herald, "A Bundle Of Energy at 93". Saturday, December 6, 1958:
AYLSHAM, Sask. (CP) - Mrs. Anna Johanna Johnson, who is about five feet tall and weighs 100 pounds, saws and splits her own firewood. She reads Swedish newspapers, knits and smokes a corncob pipe. For Mrs. Johnson, who homesteaded at Kinistino in 1903, this is retirement. She is 93. Mother of five children, she operated a large farm. There were more than 90 head of cattle in 1913. She now lives in a small house on her grandson's land."

Jeannette Anderson:
"Granny [Annie Lindstrom, 1899-1974] and Great Granny [Anna Johanna Johnson, 1865-1963] gave us the palt recipe; however, when granny made it, she never added meat - maybe because they only had potatoes in those days. Potatoes were filling and they didn't cost much more than hard labour. They called it Depression food."

Palt recipe:
- Grated potatoes and enough flour to make a dough that can be shaped into balls
- 1 tsp salt
- 1 tsp baking powder
- Crispy fried bacon in small pieces

Grate the potatoes and let them drain. Mix all ingredients, except the meat. Sprinkle hands with flour and make balls the size of tennis balls. Make a hole with 2 fingers in the middle of each ball and place 1 Tbsp fried bacon in it. Cover the hole well and place the balls carefully in a large pot of boiling, salted water, letting them cook until they float (approximately 50 min.). Stir carefully once in a while so they don't get stuck to the bottom of the pot. When they're ready, cut them into pieces and eat with salted butter. Leftovers can be re-heated in water or sliced up and fried.

Leslie Hendricks' (Anna's nephew) memories:
Anna was Lutheran. She came to Canada in 1902 and she didn't know how to write. She smoked a corn cob pipe and had a Swedish bible. She showed pictures to Leslie and Arthur Hendricks. She died on the steps of Holy Family Hospital on April 2, 1962 (96 years old). She was never in a hospital, ever.
