Nils went to Trondheim, Norway with his uncle Erik M. Nordin and his family. From there they boarded the S/S Tasso on 20 Apr 1920 to Liverpool to catch their connection to North America - the S/S Baltic. He arrived at the port of New York on May 8th, 1910 and entered Canada at Montreal on 12 May 1910. He noted his occupation as laborer.

He built a log house on the homestead and started living there 16 May 1925. The value of the log house was $700. In 1925 they broke 2 1/2 acres of land. They had 26 cattle, and 5 horses. In 1926 they broke 6 acres of land and cropped 8 1/2 acres. They had 26 cattle and 4 horses. In 1927 they broke 8 acres of land and cropped 10 acres. They had 9 cattle and 5 horses. Other buildings on the homestead included a log stable (value $300), a grannery (value $75), and a second home partly built (value $200). The homestead had 1 mile of rail fencing and 2 miles of wire fencing (total value of fencing $60). On 26 Apr 1928 he received title to the homestead.

9. Anecdote, 11 May 1925, Deer Ridge, Saskatchewan, Canada. Nels Anderson family moved to Deer Ridge in 1925 from Kinistino with a Model T Ford and horses and wagons. They herded the 80 head of cattle they had. They had two boys at that time, Alex and Fred. Alex, who was the oldest, about eight years old walked behind and chased the cattle all the way. Each day they would travel so far, then camp overnight and continue on the next day.
